The eye area is the most sensitive part of the face, characterized by thinner skin, which can contribute to certain aesthetic issues, especially with aging, such as wrinkles, fine lines, bags, and sagging. But how can these conditions be improved without relying on plastic surgery?

The good news is that with advancements in aesthetic procedures, there are different options for dermatological treatments, some of which are minimally invasive, to improve the appearance of the eye area without the need for a surgical procedure.
Larissa Oliveira, a dermatologist from Les Peaux clinic (RJ), a member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), and a full member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatological Surgery (SBCD), lists and explains the recommended alternatives for eye rejuvenation; take a look:
1 – Botulinum toxin
Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox, works by retraining the muscles in the periorbital region. “By relaxing the muscles in this area, it is possible to treat dynamic wrinkles (those that only appear with movement) and promote an open-eyed appearance and eyebrow lifting,” explains the doctor.
The procedure requires maintenance every four to six months.
2 – Fractional laser
According to the expert, fractional laser promotes cellular renewal in the area through exfoliation, as well as stimulates collagen and elastin production due to the thermal heating effect. Therefore, this option results in improved skin quality and reduction of fine wrinkles, while also providing hydration to the area.
3 – Plasma jet
Medical plasma jet can also benefit your eyes. “This technology provides immediate collagen contraction and stimulates neo-collagenesis through progressive thermal heating over six months, maintaining stability after that period,” informs Larissa.
To minimize discomfort, the procedure, which should be performed by a qualified physician, requires local anesthesia. However, it allows the patient to immediately return to their routine as there are no incisions or bleeding involved.
Typically, one to three sessions with monthly intervals are recommended.
4 – Microfocused ultrasound
Microfocused ultrasound has gained prominence in dermatological clinics due to its versatility. For the eyes, it is recommended for the treatment of eyelid sagging.
The dermatologist highlights that this option “provides a lifting effect on the upper eyelids, with final results appearing within three months, while also smoothing the appearance of bags and fine wrinkles on the lower eyelids.”
The treatment can be performed once or twice a year.
5 – Thread lift
Smooth thread lifts are often recommended for both the upper and lower eyelids to stimulate collagen and elastin production.
“They are well-indicated for the treatment of superficial wrinkles that cannot be effectively treated with botulinum toxin alone, as well as for increasing dermal density in cases of sagging,” explains the expert. “Thread lifts can be used to treat mild to moderate ptosis (drooping) of the upper eyelids, improving the positioning of the eyebrows and opening up the eyes,” she adds.
One or two treatment sessions per year are recommended.
