Summer demands special care for the entire body, especially the skin. For this, many times, it may be necessary to update your skincare routine in order to include indispensable items in this season.
However, for those who have sensitive skin, this task is usually not simple.
Sensitive skin is characterized by a predisposition to redness, inflammation, and dryness, due to its thinner composition and more fragile skin barrier, according to Ligia Novais, a dermatologist specialist from the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD). Therefore, the professional’s guidance is to maintain extra care on hot days, following a skincare routine with attention to the products used and their compositions, using sunscreen daily, and having dermatological monitoring.

For the summer, Fernanda Chauvin, a biochemist pharmacist specializing in dermatocosmetics and CEO of Ellementti Dermocosmetics, also suggests a skin cleansing and hydration routine, in addition to using soothing thermal water throughout the day.
“It’s also great to apply an antioxidant in the morning, like resveratrol, which helps decrease hyperpigmentation and prevents premature aging; vitamin D-like, which improves skin immunity; and Madecassoside, which acts as a skin rebuilder,” she suggests.
It’s important to note that sensitive skin should always adhere to the use of specialized lines for such a type. Therefore, Fernanda recommends “active ingredients such as Neurofense, which increases the threshold of sensitivity and the skin’s immune response; Beta-Glucan, which reinforces the ability to protect against external aggressions; Rhamnosoft, which acts as a soothing agent by reducing the inflammatory reaction and releasing beta-endorphins (neurotransmitter associated with well-being); Rhodiola, which acts as a metabolic regulator by increasing the skin’s ability to adapt to generated stress; Pro-Lipiskin, which reduces transepidermal water loss by stimulating the natural replenishment of lipids; and D-Panthenol, a regenerator and humectant, allowing the skin to have softness and elasticity.”
Claudia Coral, a pharmacist specializing in active ingredients and vice-president of Galena, highlights that exposure to blue light also deserves attention, as it can also cause skin damage, accelerating aging and the appearance of signs of time, such as flaccidity and wrinkles.
“To properly care for the skin, it is important to keep it hydrated with effective active ingredients like Marsturizer, which hydrates up to 63% in an hour.
It is also necessary to correctly apply and reapply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, along with products that protect against blue light, such as Olea HT-10, which decreases the degradation of collagen and elastin, keeping the skin firm, elastic, and youthful.
Also, taking antioxidants, like the Red Orange Complex, an extract of three varieties of red oranges, helps in the prevention of the formation of erythemas, the redness that appears after exposure to the sun, as well as avoiding damage to the cells’ DNA and preventing melasma,” concludes Claudia.
