Sarah Maine, COO of activewear brand Curves N Combatboots and a close friend of Young, revealed the news in a GoFundMe campaign created in Michelle’s honor.
In her statement, Maine described Michelle as “a beautiful soul, an incredible friend, a single mother, a soldier”, and highlighted the hidden battle Michelle faced, stating “it is proof that you never know what someone is going through or what demons they may be fighting.”
Before her death, Young made a touching tribute to her daughter Gracie on Instagram, celebrating the young girl’s 12th birthday. In her post, Young expressed her love and admiration for Gracie, describing her as “sweet, witty, ambitious, kind, compassionate, intelligent, hardworking, hilarious, and selfless”. She also shared how being a mother was the best part of her life, saying: “The best part of my life is being your mom.”
The death of Michelle Young, who served two tours in Afghanistan, the most recent in 2011, has led to a wave of sorrow and tributes. A friend, Brianna Hasan, remembered Michelle as “always very kind” and shared memories of conversations about their daughters.
