The term “Watsu” is a combination of the words “Water” and “Shiatsu,” a type of Japanese massage. This technique was developed in the 1980s by Harold Dull.

During a Watsu session, the therapist gently supports the client in the water, usually in a pool heated to around 35°C, which is a comfortable and relaxing temperature for the body.

The therapist then moves, stretches, and massages the client’s body gently. Floating in the water helps alleviate the body’s weight, allowing for greater mobility and flexibility.

Watsu is often used to promote deep relaxation, relieve stress and tension, and improve circulation and flexibility. It’s considered especially beneficial for people with chronic pain, arthritis, stress, anxiety, and those seeking a form of deep relaxation.

In addition to the physical benefits, many find that Watsu also offers mental and emotional advantages, contributing to an overall sense of well-being.
