When the subject is the decrease in sexual desire or erectile dysfunction among men, Viagra is an effective, low-cost, and easily accessible solution. This privilege is not the same for women who suffer from the loss of libido, often caused by the use of hormonal contraceptives or by menopause.

In the future, such inequality may be reduced with the development of four female versions of the pill, which are still little known in Brazil and not released in the country. Learn more about them:

In 2015, the first drug to treat the lack of sexual desire among women in pre-menopause was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the US government agency that controls drugs.

The continuous-use pink pill called Addyi, which has flibanserin as its active principle, is known as “female Viagra”. However, it works in a completely different way, acting in the brain to improve sexual desire, while the male drug acts as a vasodilator that stimulates penile erection.

Despite seeming a good option, Addyi does not have a very effective result.

The drug is licensed only in the United States and its use, exclusive for pre-menopausal women, should be prescribed by doctors. Recently, the pill showed an increase among the side effects and caused concern in the FDA, which will conduct new studies on it.

Among the reactions are: dizziness, fainting, low blood pressure, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, and dry mouth.

Another option is Vyleesi – also known as bremelanotide -, an injectable medication approved by the FDA in 2019, which aims to treat low sexual desire in pre-menopausal women.

Just like Addyi, its benefits are discouraging and minimally effective.

Although it is not for daily use, administered only when necessary, and applied by the patient herself, Vyleesi also results in strong reactions such as nausea, which occurs in 40% of people who take the drug.

Other side effects include sensitivity at the injection site, migraine, vomiting, cough, and fatigue.

Almost a decade on the market, Hersolution is also an available option for women.

It is an oral supplement that must be taken for at least 90 consecutive days, its formula works the hormonal balance and promises sexual desire and more intensified climax.

Another product is the Provestra pill, which helps to boost sexual desire, improve vaginal lubrication, increase blood flow in the intimate region, and also decrease the symptoms of menopause.

The oral supplement should be taken every day for a minimum period of one month.

It has a fast-acting formula for the relief of menopause symptoms and promises results in about seven days for the increase in sexual desire.

In addition to the “female Viagras”, there are other natural solutions that can alleviate the lack of libido among women: practicing exercises and quit smoking.

Among natural medicines to help in sexual desire, Maca Peruana is quite effective.

But remember: many factors can influence, so, it is indispensable a consultation with a gynecologist to know the causes and opt for the appropriate treatment.
